The New Jersey State Library’s list of digitized historic papers for Monmouth County. The list includes free access to the Asbury Park Journal (1876 – 1901), the Matawan Independent (1954 – 2000), the Matawan Journal (1869 – 1973), the Ocean Grove Times (1875 – 1986), a collection of various newspapers from Belmar (1881 – 1974), and New Jersey’s oldest Black-owned newspaper which was based on Red Bank: The Echo (1904 – 1943). Issues of The Echo have variable quality, but have been digitized in two formats – light or dark – to help enable better viewing.
